We had so much fun this past weekend at the Des Moines Home and Outdoor show! We were able to connect with so many people in our community and offer some incredible services!

One of the best things we learned is that you don’t know how much money you can SAVE until you ask! With our amazing savings and local customer service we had customers raving about us at the show! At Johnston Communications we pride ourselves on our customer service and really connecting with the community. We are more than just a retailer here, we want whats best for the customer in each unique situation.

Jason, the manager at the Carroll office is pictured above, showing one of our new customers how to schedule his recordings and favorite channels! These little things are what we take pride in! No matter the question or concern, we want to take the time to  help answer your questions. We believe that’s what sets us apart from other retailers out there. We put our attention in the details, as if we are the customers ourselves.

Trisha, our commercial sales manager from the Villisca office, is explaining the benefits of having satellite tv for your home, business, and even for your camper. With Dish service, there is something for everyone because it comes with the Dish Anywhere App. You can log into the app and utilize it to stream all of your normal channels and recordings. This allows you to watch if from anywhere on your phone, tablet, or computer. Dish is also integrated with Amazon’s firestick and Alexa. These are both great options for ease and convenience.


All in all, we had a great time meeting the community at this event and are excited to do it again soon! We have a couple of other shows for this month and then we will be gearing up to see you all at the Iowa State Fair this summer!

TV on the wrong INPUT

If the TV was recently used to play video games, VHS tapes, DVD movies or home camera movies, then you may need to return the INPUT to the TV.

  1. Press the INPUT button (may be labeled TV/VIDEO, SOURCE or Antenna) on the TV or the original remote control that came with the TV.
  2. A menu displays on the TV screen. Select the option for TV. It may be labeled HDMI 1, Cable TV, CATV, CAB, Input 1, Video 1, Antenna 1, AV1, or other name (you may need to check the TV user manual).

Or select each option, one at a time, by pressing the up or down arrow on the TV front panel or TV remote.

Changing Inputs/Channels with the TV remote.


1.  With the TV remote in hand, locate a button that says input, source, or video.

2.  Press the located button.  This will do one of two things.

a.  Change the input one at a time with each press of the button until you reach the correct input.

b.  Populate a source list.  Once the list is populated, you will need to press the same button a second time or use the directional buttons to change to the next option on the list until you reach the correct input.

3.  Once you have reached the correct input you can do one or more of the following things.

a.  If the correct input is the TV input, the tv will need to be on channel 03.

i.  Press 03 on the TV remote or use the channel buttons on the TV to tune the TV to channel 03.

b.  Press the SAT/cable button located in the top right corner of the MCG remote.  You will need to do this if you will be watching your video service.

c.  Use your remote that came with the device you will be using ie; DVD Player, VCR, Gaming Console, or PC.

SCAM NOTICE – We have recently received calls from our customers stating that they have received a call from a Skype number.  The person on the other end of the call stated that the customer had to upgrade their equipment or they would loose programming.  DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE A CREDIT CARD.  When in doubt give us a call and we would be glad to help you.  When a change like this occurs the company will notify you through the mail, much like a letter that DISH has recently sent to customers that have standard equipment.  ALWAYS keep in mind that you can call us, your LOCAL RETAILER with any questions!  We are here to help you!!  Call us toll free 866-977-4022!

You can see an easy step-by-step guide to programming your remote right on your TV screen:

  1. Press MENU on your remote control
  2. Select Settings & Help
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select Remote Control
  5. Select Program Remote and follow the on-screen prompts.

This is a very simple process to follow and right at your finger tips!

There is a process called a “power scan.” If this does not work nothing will. The power scan sends EVERY code stored in the remote to the TV trying to turn it off. Turn your TV on.

Hold down the TV mode button on your DISH Network remote until all the other mode buttons light up. Let go of the TV Mode Button. It should be flashing. Press the power button one time and let go. (If you have two power buttons on the remote press the one for the TV.) Pointing the remote at the TV. Press the “up channel button” on the remote every second until the TV turns off. Every time you press the up button it tries the next code stored in its memory. (This can take up to six minutes. If after six minutes it does not turn off, your out of luck.) Once the TV goes off, press the “#” button.

Place the remote back in SAT mode and it should now operate the TV power, volume, and mute.

Sometimes you get a code that will only operate the power on the TV. Try the power scan again. It starts over where you left off. Sometimes there is a delay in the TV turning off. If you pass the code, you can go backwards using the same process, but with the “down channel” button instead. Go slower this time.
